I would like to express my thanks to the Mobile Works program for sponsoring me in the nursing program at Bishop State Community College. Thanks to your support, I was able to complete my degree in the Registered Nurse program and am now scheduled to take my nursing boards exam.
Three years ago I was a housewife with three small children ages 6 years, 4 years and 5 months old. My husband at the time was a successful businessman and as a family we were financially secure. However, my husband's worsening drug and alcohol abuse quickly led to physical abuse in the home and after a particularly bad incident involving the police I filed for divorce. Soon after this he lost his job, had several arrests and has provided no support for the children or myself.
Through all this I knew I had to do one thing-get a degree. I knew from this moment on that I would be the sole support of my three children and that I needed an education. After completing my prerequisite courses I heard of the Mobile Works program and applied. I put everything I had into my classes, maintained membership in the honor society and earned a scholarship. I now have several job offers, both in hospitals and physicians offices and cannot wait to join the workforce again.
