MOBILE, Alabama - October 6, 2005 - Mobile Works Inc. has awarded a $156,000 contract to Associated Builders and Contractors to fund paid construction training for 200 people in the Builders Heart Program, providing Hurricane Katrina Relief in the form of paid training for disaster victims. Mobile Works is actively involved in the program, finding referral candidates for the program through activities such as its recent sponsorship of the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce Hurricane Katrina Job Fair, where many candidates were found for the program.
Trainees will be paid $12.00 per hour during the week-long training and once their training is completed will be matched up with potential employerscontractors referred by Associated Builders and Contractors of the Builders Heart program. Construction experience is not required, but extremely helpful, as is an aptitude for construction-type work, which is often outdoors.
Preference is given to people who were displaced by or lost their job because of Hurricane Katrina, but others may apply for the program as well. Trainees may be from Alabama, Mississippi or Louisiana but can only be enrolled in the program by first visiting Mobile Works at the Alabama Career Center, located at 515 Springhill Plaza Court, near the intersection of I-65 and Springhill Avenue, to certify their preferred status from Hurricane Katrina and eligibility to participate in the program.
"We are proud to invest in a program that is not only helping Mobile rebuild after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina but also helping to rebuild lives of the people Katrina affectedthe people of Mobile, the rest of Alabama, and the Mississippi and Louisiana gulf coast, stated Sydney G. Raine, President. "Jobs and training are what we know best and we truly believe providing training for jobs is the quickest way to make recovery happen for our region."
