MOBILE, Alabama - April 24, 2006 - Mobile
Works Inc. was awarded $578,600 in incentive monies by Dr. Tim Alford,
Director of the Office of Workforce Development, in the State of Alabama
Department of Economic and Community Affairs. Mobile Works received the
incentive award for being the only workforce investment area in the
entire state of Alabama to reach or exceed all goals for the 2004-2005
fiscal year.
Mobile Works oversees federal funding provided
through the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs for
workforce development activities in all of Mobile County. To assure that
these funds are expended effectively, annual performance goals are
established to meet both federal and state guidelines for excellence.
For those areas that meet or exceed their goals, the state provides
incentive awards.
The $578,600 awarded to Mobile Works
represents 60% of the available funding for awards in the entire state
of Alabama. Of the total awarded to Mobile Works, $475,780 represents an
"Exceeding Measures" award. Mobile Works was the only Workforce
Investment Area in the state to receive recognition for reaching or
exceeding all of the goals set for the 2004-2005 program
year.
"We are honored and privileged to receive these incentives
monies, but the award really recognizes the dedication of the Mobile
Works staff and the spirit of cooperation given to us by the City of
Mobile, Mobile County and our other local municipalities, as well as the
excellence of our program providers and the participation of local
businesses in our training programs," said Raine. "We look forward
to continued partnership with every entity involved."
Mobile
Works Inc., a local partnership of business, education, labor and
community leaders, provides businesses with training, leadership, labor
market information and employment programs designed to stimulate local
business by meeting the needs of Mobile area businesses while increasing
the available labor pool of skilled jobseekers in the Mobile area.
Since its inception in 2000, the group has invested more than $23.9
million overall to support Mobile area job and educational programs. In
addition, in the 2005-2006 fiscal year alone, Mobile Works will invest
over $4.6 million dollars in jobs, training and economic initiatives for
all of Mobile County.
