Congratulations Mobile! Airbus executives and city, county and state officials announced that Airbus will build a $600 million aircraft assembly plant at Brookley Aeroplex and eventually employ up to a 1,000 workers. This is exciting news for job seekers and individuals interested in making a career change.

If you are not sure about your skills or interested in learning more about jobs in the aerospace industry, consider visiting www.mynextmove.org . This website helps laid-off workers and other career changers find new occupations, suggest possible occupations based on a series of questions, identify jobs that match your current skills and locate training programs. In fact, individuals interested in getting training for jobs in the aviation field should contact the Alabama Aviation Center of Mobile to learn more about training opportunities or ST Aerospace to learn about their internship programs. Also, training scholarships up to $10,000 is available through Mobile Works for eligible applicants to obtain a two year associate's degree in avionics or airframe and powerplant maintenance certification.


Additionally, job seekers interested in submitting a resume at this time is asked to provide a cover letter along with resume specifying the name "Airbus Alabama" and the type of role or skill-set to which they are best suited to mail to [email protected]. All resumes will be reviewed in accordance with the Airbus Alabama recruiting schedule. AIDT will post specific openings for Project Management and associated support roles in the Fall and will begin recruiting during the Winter of this year. The application process for hourly and maintenance staff will begin next year.

Furthermore, dislocated workers and job seekers are encouraged to visit the Alabama Career Center located at 515 Springhill Plaza Court. Job seekers have access to a range of services under one roof. Services include various training opportunities through Mobile Works, employment search assistance through the Alabama Department of Industrial Relations, adult basic education classes (GED) through Bishop State and seasonal worker transition services for migrant workers with Telamon. Workers with disabilities can receive specialized job-related training and assistance through the Department of Vocational Rehabilitation Services and veterans can receive employment search assistance from veteran's employment service representatives on site.
