Stand Down for Homeless Veterans Monday, Nov 9th, 2009 Stand Down
The 2009 "Stand Down" for Homeless Veterans will be held Thursday, November 19, at the Spring Hill Avenue Community Center, 1151 Spring Hill Avenue, Mobile, AL, from 8:30 a.m. -2:30 p.m.
The term "Stand Down" is a military term that calls for respite and being re-supplied. For homeless veterans or any veteran needing services and housing, it's a way the community can provide outreach and assistance. By doing so, the community expresses its concern for veterans who have served honorably but need encouragement and a helping hand.
Last years event served 192 veterans. Twenty-eight community and government agencies, including the U. S. Department of Veterans Affairs, were on-hand. One-hundred and fifty volunteers and agency personnel helped provide information and services, distributed clothing and personal care supplies, and served lunch.
This annual event has become an important means for reaching veterans in the Mobile area. If you would like to assist and help those who have served our nation, please contact Dan Williams, 2009 Stand Down Committee at [email protected] or call 450-3345.
