Jump in" is the latest marketing campaign launched by Mobile Works in conjunction with the Mobile County Public School System(MCPSS) to promote awareness for career technical education. MCPSS students have accessto training in high school for jobs that are in demand for Mobile County.
Students can study carpentry, electricity, heating/air conditioning repair, plumbing/pipefitting, aircraft maintenance, welding, automotive technology, healthcare andotherclasses at Faulkner Vocational School and Bryant Career Technical School. Students can get hands-on traininginthese fieldswhich couldleadto employment orapprenticeship opportunities after graduation.
"Mobile Works is always looking for opportunities to partner with local agencies to promote awareness for jobs and trainingopportunities," states Sydney Raine, Mobile Works President. Not all high school seniors will attend a four year college; finances, academic ability, and motivation may impact their decision. As the workforce investment agency for Mobile County, we hope that this campaign will encourage high school students and their parents to explore various training and career options availableto students not attending a four year college immediately after graduation."
Additionally, the "Don't Drop Out. Jump In" campaign features Wendell Powell, a 2005 graduate ofWilliamson High School. Powell shares his experience of receiving short-term training at Enterprise-Ozark Community College with funding assistance from Mobile Works' WIA Training Scholarship Program. Powell is now certifiedairframe and powerplant technician at Mobile Aerospace Engineering.Take a listen to Wendell Powell at www.mobilejumpin.com or call 432-0909 to learn more.
