7 Tips for Jobseekers
Where are the jobs? How do I post a resume? I dont have an e-mail address. I dont have a computer. Many jobseekers will often find themselves asking questions and making such statements regarding their job search. In todays ever-changing job market, jobseekers must approach their job search like a job and think outside of the box.
Most jobseekers believe that searching the classifieds, listening to the radio and watching television advertisements are the only methods of finding jobs. However, most employers are adding to those conventional methods of recruiting top employees by moving towards web based (internet) recruiting. As recruiting strategies change, jobseekers must modify their job search tactics in order to find quality jobs.
Listed below are 7 tips to help jobseekers get on the road to success:
Know yourself. Identify your skills, work experience and interests to narrow or widen your job search. Valuable time and money will be saved by applying for jobs that closely match your skill set.
Write and Update your resume to fit the job opening. Keep your resume current and change your resume to reflect assets and skills you bring to each job.
Learn basic computer use. Increasing your computer skills boosts your opportunities. Basic computer classes are available at no cost at the Alabama Career Center (ACC).
Visit www. joblink.alabama.gov. JobLink is a no fee job match and workplace information service for jobseekers provided by the Alabama Industrial Relations Department (Employment Office) . Jobseekers can search for jobs, create a resume, contact employers and establish a free e-mail account. JobLink also provides links to other career and job search websites. Computers and assistance are available in the resource room of the ACC for jobseekers.
Visit your local state employment office (Alabama Career Center). A variety of services and programs are available to jobseekers.
Attend area career and job fairs. The Alabama Career Center has employers recruiting at the site almost daily. Come in, dress properly and be ready to be interviewed.
Networking- Not all jobs openings are advertised. In fact, over half of all employees get their jobs through networking according to BH Careers International. Talk with friends and family about your job search.
